Circle Of Beauty

[singlepic id=217 w=320 h=240 float=left]Flowers are beauty are one thing to be enjoyed and reviled in.  This composition is a tad more on the cute side. The original shot, left, was taken at Weldon Springs Park near Clinton Illinois on Sunday May 8, 2011 with Nikon D60.  The landscaper here had to put some thought into his planting for if you were to look at this formation from the air it would be a smile.  the two smaller bushes the eyes and the mouth the three blooming bushes in the back.  Seems to scream have a nice day. Either the landscaper and designer were in a great mood or they were on high doses of Prozac, which ever it had a cute effect.

Often when developing photos I go for a specific effect be it feeling or emotion.  I really analyze the photo before I begin and try to figure out what is being said to me.  That is probably why most of my best work takes me the longest.  Interpretation is up to the viewer but at least I know I am happy with what I see and feel.

[singlepic id=216 w=320 h=240 float=right]The result of all my studying and interpreting of this photo was more bright and airy, result right.  It just seemed more than natural to pass on that optimistic have a good day feel.  I love feel good sap stories yes pun intended.   It’s still early and I’m not fully awake writing this so enjoy the bad jokes.  To reach this point I started with three photos properly focused and by hand holding attempted to get the three images necessary for an HDR composition.  I was successful and as a result was able to align the images with little difficulty.  Tone mapping became a bit tricky as my typical high detail distorted the clouds and sky, in addition I felt the scene needed a touch softer of a feel than usual.  I used Qtpfsgui for the HDR and tone mapping, then brought it into Gimp for final development.  The final adjustments were really minimal, it just goes to show that sometimes you need not over develop a photo.  It only took a few tweaks to get the final image which I feel is a well tonal balance with the right level of detail and softness.
